The original Aperol Spritz recipe uses just three ingredients in a 3-2-1 proportion of Prosecco-Aperol-Tonic Water. As with any drink you can adjust the proportions depending on your taste. To cut back on alcohol, just up the amount of tonic water and add a little less Prosecco and/or Aperol. Aperol can be a bit bitter, so you can cut back a little on it if it’s too bitter, but this is what makes it so refreshing and perfect for a warm day!

My husband just discovered these in Europe not too long ago, even having grown up in Italy, this was new to him. He entered adulthood in Florence, and they drank more Campari than Aperol, so that was what he was familiar with. This just shows how regional Italy is and how some things that are so common in one area are not at all common in another.

Aperol Spritz
Ingredients
- 8 oz Aperol
- 4 oz tonic water
- 12 oz Prosecco
- 1 orange fresh, sliced
Instructions
- If you're making a pitcher of the Aperol spritz, don't add ice to the pitcher as it will water down the drink. First pour in the Aperol, then add the Prosecco, and lastly the tonic water. Mix well. Store in the refrigerator until you are ready to serve to keep it cold.
- When serving, fill a wine glass, or whatever glass you are using, half full of ice, then pour the spritz over. Garnish with an orange slice.
